| I have accumulated a lot of those supposed throw away propane bottles. We have an outdoor stove and a Little Buddy heater. Are there any tricks to refilling them, or should one just toss them? |

Toss them. The valves on them are so cheap, usually after just the first hookup they won't seal right again. Agreed, single use propane bottles are not designed to "refillable tank specifications" and therefore, pose a safety hazard...the valves are not designed for multiple uses and the steel used is not the same grade as, say...a 20lb tank. ------------- Cliff & Raelynn Ranger 4.0/178 (1/2 ton 5,800lb tow capacity) |

| that is what I thought. I saw at the RV dealers the other day, the cutest miniature propane tank, refillable just like the big 20 lb. It looked like it would hold a gallon, and with a hose with adapter, it looked like it would be even better than the little one lb. ones. |

I most often use the little http://www.amazon.com/Worthington-281149-1-Gallon-Cylinder-Prevention/dp/B000SKX63U - Worthington 1 Gallon tank and adapter hose for grill (Weber Q), single burner stove (Sportsman Cast Iron) and peace-of-mind pod backup. Can also be used for Mr. Heater Buddy heater. Recently, I decided to mess around with the refill adapter thing and some one pounders I have sitting around. Besides the 1 gallon tank, I have a couple of 20 pounders anyway. The few (Coleman) refills I have done seemed to work just fine. I weighed the empty bottle and came within 1 ounce of full (net 1 pound) when refilling. Tested with soapy water and no leaks. I think I'll pick up one of those Coleman single burner stoves and try one out. I've had exactly the same experience. It didn't matter if they were brand name (e.g. Coleman, Bernzomatic) or off-brand generic, the valves on the 1-pound tanks would always leak. ------------- Craig :: 2009 RP171 towed by a 2017 F150 |

OK, now you guys got me wundering 'bout this refill idea. So, I just ran out and grabbed one I refilled two days ago. Well, it is a tight community around here!  I just figured I would try some since I had them sitting around. It will be kinda fun to see if they hold the weight.
