I reported last week that I had a taillight issue.  I was able to remove the light and get a replacement under warranty from the dealer.  So here's my question.  Around the outside of the assembly there was silicone sealer.  UNDER the assembly, between the light and the side of the pod, was a substance I can only describe as "putty".  It was soft and workable similar to Play-Doh.  What is that stuff and where do I get it?

Thanks,

Jim

I'm guessing it's lap sealant, the same stuff that's used on the top around the vent stacks, TV antenna, etc.  You can get at home improvement stores or on Amazon.

LOL.. it's not lap sealant. It's some special 3 part wonder crap you can't get anywhere. I was at the factory last year and asked them about it after changing out my porch light and finding it in there. They showed me the special gun that mixes and injects it. Cool stuff.. but just not available. I ended up filling the hole with regular low expansion insulating foam, and skimming with silicone.

So a coworker had a good idea:  Plumber's putty.  That should do the trick.

Thanks for the replies!
