Other than the little area at the front with a cabinet door the rest of the storage under the bed in a 171 is accessed from the two exterior hatches. Only other thing under the bed is the water heater. ------------- 2010 R-Pod RP-171 2010 Honda Ridgeline TV |

I had a piano hinge added at the back end of the plywood, and two hydraulic lifters added, one at each end. I now just apply a little lift to the cover and the lifters do all the work. Just saw this thread .. Our 171 is like JohnBG's: Under the bed is accessed only via the interior cabinet door or through the exterior hatches. The ply under the bed is in 2 pieces: big piece and a smaller piece just above the water heater & pump. Both screwed down. | You need better access to storage area. I took screws out of plywood, fitted piano hinge at back, drilled a hole near front edge of plywood, put a rope thru hole with plastic 'gaskets' (from bottom of big pop containers) above and below plywood to hold the rope in place, and put a loop in the top end for grabbing the rope. A stick propped in the hole's edge holds it open if I need a prolonged examination. Works ok, no bulky projections to bother sleeper. |
