I’m looking for some books, travel (camping) guides, “apps” for trip planning from Spokane to Anchorage. Thank in advance!

We're also planning an Alaskan trip next year. I looked online and requested Alaska's tourism guide for campers. It's free, and then I'll accumulate from there. You can get a hard copy, download it online or both.

When I recently mentioned to a friend I wanted to do this trip, he immediately corrected me to let me know I would "not want to do that, the roads will tear yor truck and trailer up". I did not want to get into it with him, but my perception is that there are PLENTY of RVers and Trailer Pullers who do this every year and the roads would be the least of my worries.  I am not ready to go quite yet, but will within the next couple of years...please post photos and experiences for us!

We are also thinking of doing an Alaska trip summer of 2017. Not sure if we will take the R Pod or our 39' 5th wheel.

It kind of depends on whether the grandkids go with us of fly to Anchorage and join us.

The milepost was mentioned, it is a must have.  It tells you what you need to know about the route.

I also like this one:  Traveler's Guide to Alaskan Camping: Alaska and Yukon Camping With RV or Tent.  It tells you what you need to know about where you are staying.

It's been many years since I've run the Alcan, I understand it has improved over the years.  That said, the farther north you go, the more you need to watch for frost heaves and potholes.  Also many Alaskan dirt roads can deteriorate quickly after lots of rain and traffic.

We beat the daylights out of a new popup before we got it hardened for Alaska roads.  Our new R-Pod definitely travels better, but still awareness of road conditions is important.  The Milepost will be invaluable to you for this.  The other thing to have a plan for is Alcan gas availability and pricing.

I would make the run with an R-Pod without worry.  Of course, for us, it would be a southbound trip.  It's a great trip, you will love it!
