Being new to RVing the choices of discount membership clubs are daunting.
Good Sam,Thousand Trails, Passport America, KOA and the like.
I would like to hear a sound off of what has worked for you guys?

The Passport America group sounds legit.

We use KOA, they have a set standard of what they accept for a franchise. We have only had one bad one in our years of camping. You accumulate points during stays that you can use for discount stays.

We have 1000 Trails. But like any time share type thing, only worth it if you are going to camp where they have resorts, and of course if you use it.  We have not been unhappy in any of the 6 resorts we have used so far.

EDIT: In full disclosure, we get our membership for free, from/through my parents, who have a 2 digit membership number, so their membership includes every perk ever offered, including family membership, which was offered for a year or two back in the mid 80's..

We have used KOA for over 35 years. We counted last fall that we've stayed at over 70 KOAs all over the United States; and in that time, we've only been disappointed about 6. Besides their point system, which is fabulous if you travel a lot, we use KOA so frequently that in the past 5 years we've been considered VIP members and get free, automatic renewal of our membership each year. There are little bonuses attached to that status, too. KOAs are found just about everywhere, and we usually plan the routes of our long trips based on their locations, because we know we will have consistency. We are Good Sam members because we shop at Camping World, and they service our trailer; but we don't feel that their recommended campgrounds can always be trusted.

We've joined KOA the last two years and will likely renew this year, due to all the travelling we've done. We have generally liked the ones we've stayed in (although spelling everything with a "K" annoys me a bit, lol) and have saved enough to justify the cost. We've been less impressed when we've stayed at campgrounds that are billed under other clubs.

If you will be going to National Parks, don't forget to buy their annual pass. We've saved several times the cost in entry fees.
