I bent one of the stabilizer jacks on my R-Pod 178 and need to replace it.  Currently there are four Tristar 2500 scissor jacks on my trailer.  I am curious whether any other R-Pod owners have replaced scissor jacks; and if so, whether there is any benefit or drawback to going with heavier duty scissor jacks.

Welcome to the group! We bent a stabilizer jack on our st r-pod, a 171. We replaced it at our dealership with a similar jack. These jacks are used to just stabilize the pod, not lift it or anything so I am not sure you would need something heavy duty with extra weight.

Yep, I replaced a right rear because on the morning on our first night of camping I decided the nose of the POD was a little low and so I cranked on the tongue jack 3 times before I realized I was scrunching my rear stabilizers!  You don't mention how you bent yours???

I was going into a mini mart in Maryland, which apparently had what seemed like a drainage gutter around it's parking lot, my wife said that I wasn't going to make it..................................she was right. Bent the rear stabilizer and rubbed it right off the back end.

We bent one of our rear stablisers entering a garage, then bent other on a bit of a rise off road. Thought about it and have removed them [4 screws] then had bolted a square bar to stabliser plate [so it swivels to aid storage]. The bar then fits into chassis and works a treat and gives us an extra 12cm clearence

1st image is jammed stabliser, 2nd image is a modded view, 3rd image has explanations. I have made the images a large as poss so you can see detail

Thank you. We have not had a problem so far, but I like the idea of being able to swivel the jacks instead of having them at a fixed angle. That alone would make this a good mod.

we have used them for 3 setups so far and they appear to work well. The extra clearance is great Thumbs Up

The back left stabilizer on the Pod seems to have been bent by the previous owner...not so much that it is non functional but enough that the foot tilts at a slight angle going down but then seems to self adjust and rests well on our plastic platforms. I pulled the stabilizer back a little to straighten it out and it seems to plant better. Am I in bounds with this tweak?

Yes, I have done the same with mine, and older 2011  177 which I have owned since March 2011.  Finally got smart and purchased the riser kit from FR last Fall.  Took less than 1 hour to install.  So the stab's are a bit bent, no big deal to me, they still work, a bit funky with a bent rod but as long as it does its intended function I will keep it as it is.

All of my rear stabilizers came with pre bent jack screws from the previous owner. I straightened them out, but was not impressed with the thin quality of the ones FR uses.

A few weeks later I was in one of those closeout type stores and they had a bunch if camper products. I picked up two much better made 4500lb ones for $25ea and installed them on the rear. I tossed the old ones in the scrap pile.

The fronts are safe for now, but if I find another "deal" I'll replace them too.

Btw, they are spot welded to the frame, so you will need a side grinder to get them off.

It's a really good idea to spend the money on a pair of Sav-a-Jacks and install them on the rear corners.

Just a word of warning, even with sturdier jacks you don't want to lift the trailer with them, use them for stabilizing only.  The trailer frame isn't designed to take that much stress.

Talked a bit to my dealership about the stabilizer location and how low they are. His first suggestion was to move them forward.

Well, that sounded simple! He said take a string from the bottom of the tire and run it to the bumper. There's the clearance area.

If you think our's are low.. he showed me another that not only are the stabilizers low, but the manufacture'r decided to build them down 3" more... We both chuckled and scratched our heads as to why?

Biggest difference I see is the stabilizers would be inline with the frame, not on the angle they are now.

Almost 5 years with Save-a-Jacks, no bent stabilizers, no replacements.
