I have a 182G that is solar ready.  There are are two wires in the front that are identified as Zamp connections. Do these wires have to be attached to the battery in order to plug a Zamp solar panel into the Zamp outlet on the side?  My panel works when I connect directly to the battery but when I plug into the outlet on the side, I get a 601 error which means "not connected to battery".

Yup. The two wires identified as Solar or Zamp should be connected to the battery in order for this 'port' to 'work'. They also should follow the same pattern as your pod connectors (red with red, black with black).

Oh, and before you connect your solar panel controller, ring out the wires to make sure they are correctly connected to the zamp plug. My digital plug-in checker didn't register after I hooked up to the batteries. Luckily, the 1st time I used my solar panels, I hooked up directly to the batteries, so no damage to controller.
FR said they were wired incorrectly and can be fixed under warranty.  ....or, you can just reverse those two wires and solve the problem yourself.

And add a fuse at the battery.
