This just popped into my head.  It has to do with being over weight and also how a manufacturer will lie to sell his product.

There is a company that makes a motorcycle carrier that hooks into a trailer hitch receiver.  They claim it will haul ANY motorcycle.  This is for motorhomes and even some 5th wheel campers.

Here is the problem.  When you add weight to the back end of a motorhome you transfer something like 30% of the weight off the front wheels and add it to the back wheels.  So, you measure the weight on the back wheels, add the weight of that cycle carrier, add the weight of the cycle and add that 30% of the weight from the front end.  You WILL be over weight for the tires, axle and suspension.  Something will eventually break.

You also have a weight transfer on the back of an R-Pod if you add things to the rear hitch.  Just something to think about.

When you say that 30% of the weight will shift off the front wheels...is that 30% of the additional
rear weight or an actual 30% of the full front weight of the RV rig.  I can't see how it could
be 30% of the RV's front weight.  That would mean that a small bicycle on my rear carrier would
shift a couple of tons from the front to the rear of my RV.  I know I would see such a shift, even without having it weighed on a scale.

Your right.  It was 30% in an example I was reading.  I was thinking the same thing you were.  In the example they used a big Harley.  I wish I could remember the actual formula.  The end results is that there is a good chunk of weight added the the rear end.  In a trailer it would lessen the tongue weight.  I would imagine the longer a unit is the more weight transfer also.
