Topic: Breaker and fuse panel labels

Subject: Breaker and fuse panel labels
Date Posted: 14 May 2017 at 8:14am
We just purchased an r-pod 178 and I noticed blank labels for all the breakers and fuses, except perhaps the main breaker is labeled.  But that isn't even clear.  Has anyone sussed out what functions each breaker and fuse protects?  I think I have the converter, but that is all!  Seems odd to me that there is no documentation on the electrical wiring.

Thanks and regards,

Here's what mine looks like, there is lots of dual and triple use on the fuses though.

Here is an image of the distribution box with the blank labels, except for the MAIN breaker.  Full resolution image is here:  https://www.dropbox.com/s/49twnn2dg2k1hst/RP178DistributionBox.JPG?dl=0

Thanks for the photo!  Did you make the labels or did your rpod come labeled?

Yours is the first I have seen unlabeled, and I have seen many....

The good thing is, you can reach every component and circuit easy to trace them.. the 30A is of course the main, the 20 is the a/c, after that just flip them to see what cuts off.. one is for the water heater, one for the gfci circuit and probably the fridge, though not always, 1 for the microwave, 1 for the converter, etc

Just email Forest River.  I am sure they will mail you out two stickers.  They just forgot to put them on.

StonyRiverDave,
Mine 180 came like this with labels, but there is more going on here with the 12v side that you need to noodle out yourself, lots of shared things. for instance the bed area lights also power the both outside lights and the relay for the slideout but not the slideout, and the bath lights also fire the fan.
Like furpod says, just turn everything on and turn breakers off 1 at a time and you will find out what they do in a minute. As for the fuses, it's the same process only you have to figure out what they shared.
Good luck! and Congrats on the new pod!

So far, every pod I have worked on, the fridge has been the last fuse, and it's been a 20 or a 30..

SRD, does your new pod have the awning or electric jack?

The warranty and service person at Forest River sent me a .docx file for the wrong product, then sent the fuse .doc file.  I still don't have the breaker label file.

She said they couldn't get the labels for me because they were not making RPods at the moment!  ???

My wife read in the paper this morning that there was a fire at the Forest River plant maybe that has something to do with it. And I do know they schedule runs of different RVs in the same plant so they're not continuously making rpods

I checked it out. It was a mostly vacant building that Forest River was refurbishing so that their Elkhart Coach Division could use it. It was not the Forest River R-Pod/Surveyor factory in Goshen.
See http://www.elkharttruth.com/hometown/elkhart/fire-destroys-mostly-vacant-forest-river-rv-building-in-southwest/article_4a1b6fef-2466-586f-8352-595f5a399639.html - The Elkhart Truth article for details. There is a link on the same page to an article about a fire in a Lippert components factory in Goshen on the 8th of May. That might affect production since the R-Pod includes Lippert parts.

Back to the 30 amp or "all pods are wired different".
Went out to the pod Monday ( had to replace the converter/invertor, Lighting strike, but that's another story). I turned everything on and pulled fuses one at a time. And this is what I found.

I'm a little concerned, I have no breakers over 15 amp, they are labeled this way from the factory, and my #3 fuse is both the water heater AND REFRIGERATOR - AND it's only 15 amp,
And my #7 is Front cabin lights, Outside lights AND SLIDEOUT - AND it's only 15 amp,
I'm seeing others with 20 amp and 30 amp fuses, saying that they are for the fridge or slideout.
Wondering if I should be worried? I guess if the fuse is smaller it will fail sooner and they haven't yet so it's working as it should?

#1 Water pump
#2 radio /antenna
#3 Water heater and refrigerator
#4 Bath lights, Fan
#5 Rear cabin lights
#6 Slideout sink light and nothing else
#7 Front cabin lights, outdoor lights, and slideout
