We make it a practice to turn off the electric element when hooking up to travel. When we arrive at our destination, we heat with propane first (heats much faster), then switch on the element and switch off of propane.

Hello VMH, when you refer to emptying it when you finished your trips "I considered that but as we have only been able to take two trips since we've owned it and emptied it each time when finished," do you mean that you are draining the water heater tank? If that is the case how are you draining it, by removing the anode rod each time? If that is the case be sure to remember to fill that water heater tank before using it each time because it is very easy to burn up the electric heating element and it doesn't take long to do it, without water in the tank. Be careful.

It also could have been filled at the dealer and left with high alkaline water. As it had not been sold, it is still new even if the anode rod shows evidence of deterioration. It was protecting the tank as it is supposed to do.

The RV title will tell you whether the vehicle has been previously titled.

Thanks for the comment. I considered that but as we have only been able to take two trips since we've owned it and emptied it each time when finished, I wasn't considering it probable. Could be mistaken.

Don't judge on the appearance of the anode rod. There are water conditions that can cause rapid deterioration of the anode rod so that a new one will look old very quickly. Very high pH water is one of them.

Is there a way, besides relying upon the paperwork that came with the R-Pod, to get information: 1) Actual date of manufacture 2) If the R-Pod was used prior to sale as new 3) A "carfax" type of report for travel trailers There are just too many things that have cropped up including a hot water anode rod that looks years old with supposedly only 15 days of use, to not consider that this "new" R-Pod wasn't quite new.
