It would seem that you would order a canopy that was only wide enough for the straight part of the track. That might work and provide a quick cover. I have the R-dome and only put it up if I am going to be there a few days.

Well, since the R-Dome is actually a 13' Dometic... I would think it would be too small.

Has anyone looked at using a 7' or 8' pop up awning (Dometic RV Camper Trailer Pop up Trim Line)? On our 179 it looks like there is 7 ' to 8' of straight track. But will the awning flex enough to be installed on the curved part of the track is the question. I think we are going to by one to try. The price is right on e-bay $179.

Where did you get those poles as an additional support? I have found that in windy conditions the strings alone will not support the awning and I have found the awning to sag down, or even have blown up onto the roof. Your solution looks great!

I have a 2015 RP 179and purchased an awning from Paha Que. Picture attached
uploads/2796/2014-09-16_001_2014-09-15_003.JPG It was touch and go putting it up on my own for the first time, especially since it was windy that day, but overall, very happy with the product. The supports are a little snug to the rear entry door, but it sure beats sitting in the Florida sun. I understand that some campground sites are too narrow for a full R Dome, and I also wanted an open feeling. |

WQ, Thanks, keep us posted. I have an R Dome but don't generally use it as we only can do one or two nighters , we are still working, but would like something a little easier to handle and put up. thanks for the post.

I have also used a dremel to smooth the entrance channel. This improved the install tremendously. My major issue was determining which side went up till I put it up three times and figured out that the rolled up shades go on the outside. It takes two of us, me on a traveling step ladder pulling the dome along and my wife feeding the dome through the channel. We have got it down to a science now and do appreciate the weather proofness it provides not withstanding the stupid suction cups which I have replaced with heavier duty ones, along with replacing the light duty stakes with "real" stakes.

I did just the opposite. I bent the ends in and filed them down. I was having trouble with the R-dome coming out of the channel. Anyone else have the trouble.
